The short version
FamSpot shares your location and the things you post with the family members you invite. We use your information only to run FamSpot. We don’t sell it, we don’t use it for advertising, and the app contains no advertising or analytics libraries. You can pause or stop sharing at any time and delete your account from inside the app.
Who we are
FamSpot is made by Essential Dev Team (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the FamSpot iPhone app and this website, getfamspot.app. Contact us at essentialdevteam@gmail.com.
What we collect and why
| Information | What it includes | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Email address and password (stored as a secure hash by our backend provider), or an anonymous guest account for people who join with an invite code. | To sign you in and recover your account. |
| Profile | Display name, emoji or photo avatar, and an optional phone number. | So your family recognises you, and so they can call you from the app if you add a number. |
| Family | The families you create or join, your role, invite codes and PINs, and family settings. | To run families and decide who can see what. |
| Location | Your latest position and time, battery level and charging state, and a history of positions with accuracy and speed. | To show you on your family’s map, power arrival alerts, and show history. |
| Check-ins | Status, note, time and, if you choose, your location. | To share your status with your family. |
| Safety events | A detected event (such as a possible accident, fall, phone drop, sudden stop or high speed), its time, and the location and speed at that moment. | To add it to your family’s safety log. Motion is analysed on your phone; only detected events are sent. |
| Places and alerts | Saved places (name, address, coordinates, icon) and your arrival and departure alert choices. | To notify the right people when someone arrives or leaves. |
| Messages and tasks | Chat messages and conversation members; tasks, assignees, due dates, points and completion. | To provide chat and shared tasks. |
| Notifications | A push token for your device. | To deliver alerts you’ve chosen. |
| Onboarding answers | The reasons you picked when you started (for example “keep kids safe”), your language and app version. | To tailor your first steps and understand what families need. Not linked to advertising. |
| Purchases | Which plan or add-on you have. Apple handles payment; we never see your card. | To unlock paid features. |
| Support emails | Whatever you choose to send us. | To help you. |
Some settings stay only on your phone, such as haptics, update frequency and whether you’ve seen onboarding.
What we don’t collect
We don’t collect your contacts, photos (other than an avatar you choose), the advertising identifier, or browsing data, and we don’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
Who can see your information
- Your family. Members of a family can see each other’s profile, shared location, battery, check-ins, safety log, saved places and tasks. Location history is visible to everyone in the family or only to each person, as the family owner chooses. Messages are visible to the people in that conversation.
- Service providers who process data on our behalf: Supabase (database, sign-in, file storage and server functions), Apple (push notifications, maps and address lookup, App Store purchases), and Cloudflare (hosting this website). They may process data in the United States and other countries.
- When the law requires it, or to protect the safety of a person or the service, we may disclose information to the extent required.
We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
Your choices
- Location permission is controlled in iPhone Settings. You can allow While Using, Always, or none.
- In Settings ▸ Location & privacy you can stop sharing, pause it, share an approximate area (rounded to about a mile), change the update frequency, and turn the safety log off.
- Choose for each check-in whether to include your location.
- Turn notifications off in iPhone Settings, and choose which arrival alerts you get.
- Edit or remove your profile photo, name and phone number at any time.
- Leave a family from Settings.
If a family owner requires someone to keep sharing on, that person can’t pause or blur sharing inside FamSpot, but can always turn location off in iPhone Settings. The family is told when that happens.
How long we keep it
- Location history: 30 days, then deleted.
- Latest location, profile, check-ins, safety events, places, tasks and messages: while your account exists, or until you or your family delete them.
- Deleted accounts: removed from our live systems straight away. Copies in encrypted backups expire on our provider’s backup schedule.
Deleting your account and your rights
Delete your account in Settings ▸ Delete account. This permanently erases your profile, locations, history, check-ins and messages. Families you created that still have other members pass to another member; shared content they created stays with them.
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your information, to object to or restrict some uses, and to complain to a data-protection authority. Email essentialdevteam@gmail.com and we’ll respond within 30 days. We won’t treat you differently for using these rights.
Where the GDPR applies, we rely on our contract with you to provide FamSpot, on your consent for location and notifications (which you can withdraw in iPhone Settings), and on our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and improving it.
Children
FamSpot is designed for families, so children may use it with a parent or guardian. A parent or guardian should set up the family, invite the child and decide what is shared. Children can join with an invite code and don’t need an email address. We don’t knowingly collect information from a child under 13 (or the age required where you live) without a parent’s or guardian’s involvement; if you believe this has happened, email essentialdevteam@gmail.com and we’ll delete it.
Security
Data travels over encrypted connections. Our database is protected by row-level rules so members can read only their own family’s data. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and only invite people you trust.
This website
getfamspot.app uses no cookies, no analytics and no advertising. Our host, Cloudflare, processes basic request data such as IP addresses to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. Fonts are served from this site, not from third parties.
Changes
If we change this policy we’ll update the date above, and for significant changes we’ll tell you in the app. Questions? Email essentialdevteam@gmail.com.
